Winter is almost over and unfortunately your deck has probably taken a beating. A spring makeover will renew your deck, and it can preserve the deck’s long-term health. Here are some great steps that we, as your favorite Indianapolis deck builder, put together for you.
The greatest benefit of composite decking in Indianapolis, like Trex, is that you don’t need to stain it each year. However, your deck will require a thorough cleaning at least once throughout the year.
We suggest you start by getting rid of or sweeping away any leaves left over from fall. Use a broom of leaf blower to remove the loose pieces from the surface or between the boards. Then use a deck brush to scrub any areas that have tougher blemishes.
Roll out any outdoor carpets you have and look for any snags or bumps that may result in a walking hazard. Next use a pressured hose to spray down your deck. If you feel your deck can withstand the pressure you may use a power washer, if you are unsure check with us.
Next is setting up any outdoor furniture you have. If you stored your furniture somewhere else now would be the time to bring it out and wipe it down or uncover it if it was covered. Check out each piece of furniture and ensure that there is no mold.
If you have potted plants, with warm water scrub the pots. Do not use soap or chemicals that can harm your plants. Also, use new new spring vines and flowers to fill planter boxes and lower maintenance by adding water-retention polymers and slow release fertilizer.
Trim any shrubs and branches that might have started to overhand or grow into pathways or sitting areas. Finally, do a check of your entire outdoor living area. Check on landscape lights for burned out or damaged bulbs, and replace them as necessary.
